You want to do what?!

Landscape Ontario Award of Excellence 2020

Humor is a wonderful thing. When we proposed that the best way to get more useable entertainment space in this 20 year old backyard setup would be to cut the existing concrete pool in half it was largely in jest. It didn’t take long for the original chuckles and ‘you must be kidding’ comments to subside and turn into thoughts of the opportunities this move could unleash.

Creating a more pleasing outdoor space started with sight lines that begin inside the home and target a fire and water bowl feature that was built at the rear of the pool. A herringbone brick and limestone surround provides a dramatic backdrop to the focal point. Credit Valley sandstone columns and a Western Red Cedar arbor frame the picture. This material combination was used throughout the yard from the pool copings and decking to the rear landing and wrap around steps to the built in bbq and serving area. Wonderfully soft landscape lighting sets off this lovely outdoor space when evening begins to arrive. All of this set inside deep rich plantings creates a setting that is truly exceptional.
